The Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) approach will be modified into an individual treatment format for use with concerned significant others (CSOs) of problem gamblers.  Phase I involves the development of the therapist treatment manual, client handouts, and the treatment integrity  checklist.  Phase II will empirically test this innovative approach with CSOs of problem gamblers.

Status (Complete)

This study had two phases. Phase I involved development of the CRAFT therapist manual, client handouts, and treatment integrity checklist. Phase I was successfully completed. Phase II involved delivering the CRAFT intervention, completion of the treatment integrity checklist and data analysis. The CRAFT individual intervention was delivered to 16 participants (and 15 received the self-help workbook) and the treatment integrity checklist was completed for 8 participants. Due to difficulties with recruitment, 31 out of the proposed 48 study participants were successfully entered into the study. Data analysis is currently underway and preliminary results support the hypothesis that individuals in the individual intervention group did better than those in the self-help workbook only group.
